About this business:

In August 2019, Fif and Ann Buckingham took over The Anchor Inn, Hartland. The hotel had been neglected for many years and was in a parlous state; comprehensive rebuilding and redecoration were required before guests could be welcomed back to this 16th Century inn, with its pub, hotel and restaurant. At the rear of the pub is a car park and a south-facing sun-terrace with lovely rural views.

In the well-equipped bar, a comprehensive range of real ales, lagers, ciders, wines and spirits is available, along with a free pool table (considered to be one of the best in the North Devon Pool League), a dart board and an extensive variety of board games. The Anchor is a member of CAMRA, the campaign for real ale.

The bar features both a Boudoir Grand and an upright piano, together with a selection of guitars and a mandolin; impromptu performances by budding or experienced musicians are welcome, alongside our programme of live music events.

The Anchor provides both free WiFi and free charging for your mobile devices and is pet-friendly. Bar opening hours are Monday to Friday: 11:00 to Late, Saturday: 11:00 to Late, and Sunday: 11:00 to 22:30

The restaurant offers fine food in a comfortable, congenial atmosphere, with a wide choice of vegetarian and vegan options always available. Restaurant Opening hours are Monday to Saturday: Lunch 12:00 to 14:30, Dinner 18:00 to 20:30, Sunday roast dinners: 12:00 to 14:30 and 18:00 to 20:30.

The hotel offers nine superbly appointed rooms with en-suite shower. All rooms have TV, Wi-Fi and internet access, with free device charging points.

Attached to The Anchor is The Crow’s Nest, a luxuriously appointed self-catering apartment with its own separate access; it is dog-friendly making it the ideal holiday destination for pet owners.

Located in the village of Hartland, North Devon, about 3 miles from Hartland Point, The Anchor is a popular location for walkers, providing convenient access to The South West Coast Path, spectacular scenery, shady lanes, ancient woodlands, sheltered footpaths, traditional bridleways and wild moorland (nearby Bursdon Moor is a SSSI). Both Exmoor and Dartmoor are accessible from Hartland and public transport is available; please see our website for local information.

Due to its location and lack of both noise and light pollution, Hartland has often been used as a film location, the bar in The Anchor was itself used in the award-winning BBC series The Night Manager.
